although I think I always prefer the ‘wrong’ side of garter stitch stripes, so maybe this will be come the ‘right’ side! Which do you prefer?
But perhaps before I knit any more, I should organise a better lighting set up!

The Brown Sheep Company, who spins the Lanaloft yarn we sell, have recently started a blog, and there is a great post up that talks about their spinning process, and shows some of the machines that they use in the production of all their lovely yarn!

My journey went smoothly, it’s nice to be back in the Faroes. For those who don’t know – I live in the Faroe Islands most of the year (the world’s most attractive islands, according to the National Geographic – they obviously didn’t visit during Winter!) Fortunately, through the wonder of the internet, I can deal with all the admin, and design kits and patterns here, while Val (my mam!) sends the orders out as we receive them. So you can expect the occasional photo of Faroese sheep, and complaints about the weather soon!
Here is the second gallery of example colourways as promised, the entries to the competition are gathering a pace, remember you can suggest more than one!
I’ll also be taking pictures of suggested colourways when I’ve unpacked – so keep them coming
I thought I might add some inspiration for the name competition – (click on the photo or hover over it to discover the colours involved – you can find them all here in the shop).
Another gallery will go up on Monday, while I’ll be flying back to the Faroe Islands – Val is currently on holiday so all orders will be posted out on the 15th August.
Here is the first pattern released for Magpie Yarns – a cute cushion cover reminiscent of Marimekko fabric. I love Nordic textiles and wanted to emulate the clean lines of the floral prints.
The base is knit and then decorated with crocheted flowers which are quick and simple to make. The photos show the Periwinkle colourway, which is made up of Catamaran Seas and Cottage White, and other colourways will be featured throughout the week.
If you would like to suggest a colourway please leave your suggestion in the comments, using the names of the yarn! Do name the colourway as well – I sometimes have trouble coming up with names – which brings me to out first ‘name the pattern, win the kit’ competition!
Simple enough – leave a name for the pattern in the comments, and make sure to fill in your email address!
How will the winner be chosen?
- I will choose the one I like best (hint: if you can somehow bring in the gridlike layout of the flowers, that will probably up your chances of winning.
- If I can’t decide between several names, I will pick one out of a hat.
